Kindergarten Wrap Up!

Has an entire school year really gone by?!
I feel as though it was just yesterday we were taking William to his first day of school...I don't think I'll ever get used to how quickly time passes.

Highlights of this year...

*Watching William grow socially.  I think he'll always be a bit intimidated in situations that are new.  He's definitely our cautious and analytical little guy.  He's been deemed "shy" by many, but I refuse to let him believe it.  If it takes reminding him everyday that we serve a God who has made him to be strong and courageous for Him, I'll do it (o;  His transition to Kindergarten went SO much more smoothly than anticipated (even though he had me walk him to class the entire school year...I'll soak it up now, cause how much longer will that last?!).  Much thanks to the wonderful and talented Mrs. Ruwitch who made him feel so loved and welcomed right off the bat.
Calvin loved Mrs. Ruwitch as much as William did (o;
Mr. Social could have blended right in with the Kindergarteners.  He was well known by the entire class...including the "upperclassmen" (o;  Here he is with his friend Adrian who he sought out every morning to say hello as we walked William to class.
He made a lot of new friends.  I told William how proud I was of him when, on his end of the yr field trip to Enchanted Forest, he was paired up with a boy named Matthew instead of one of the few boys he calls his "best buddies".  Matthew's primary language is Spanish and so had a challenging time relating to kids at times.  William didn't skip a beat in befriending him.  As soon as the three of us were paired up, he said, "Come on Matthew!" and off we went to explore.  Couldn't be more proud.

*I was so thankful to be as involved as I was in the classroom with William. There was three of us moms who spent the majority of the time in class throughout the week and it helped not only in getting to know his entire class (all 27 of them!), but also the other moms.

*Garden Club
   Of course, if there's a garden club, I'll inquire (o;  The school has a neat area at the corner of their property designated solely for outdoor education.  Kids sign up to be in the Garden Club and learn all about where food comes from, different types of food and how to plant and harvest.  William's favorite part?  The very last week the kids got to pick their own lettuce and herbs and then mix up their own dressing (with a variety of ingredients they chose from) to make their own salad. Then they got to try it.  It was pretty hilarious some of the kids reactions.  William?  He told me he'd eat salad any day if he got to make his own dressing again (o;

Calvin got to be just as involved as William was.  Love my two little worker bees.

Pick your salad...
...and eat it!
I also had the opportunity to work with another Mom (Angie) to present to both kindergarten classes the concept behind a composting worm bin.  Angie and I both had three year old helpers and they had a ton of fun getting to help the big kids. Unfortunately, my entire worm bin picture file is MIA...bummer.

We created a special bond with Mrs. Ruwitch, and especially since William was a part of her last year  before retirement.  We're hoping we've convinced her that she'll need to come back and visit to pick blueberries each year (o;
