Even though they can't be here in Oregon to enjoy their grandchildren, I thought this would be one way to help keep them in touch. I am also glad it can be used to keep all of my friends and family in touch as well!MJGhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18268794551688371200noreply@blogger.comBlogger470125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188939088046493742.post-31499893289353581302021-10-16T16:43:00.052-07:002021-11-29T21:20:50.350-08:00Soccer!

BOTH boys enjoyed soccer this Fall with Real Life Sports!

This was William's 2nd time playing and he made the decision all on his own. He even asked at his last practice this season if Real Life let 9th graders play...He was already thinking about playing into 9th grade! After his traumatizing experience in kindergarten, we've never pushed the idea of playing again. Now he says he's really enjoying the sport. I'm just thankful he's found something he likes to do that keeps him moving. Calvin decided to try it this year. Normally we would've said no to two sports at a time, but practices were actually between when Calvin got done with school and when William was released so it filled that gap nicely so we could pick them both up at the same time. His 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Shroeder was the coach and he loved her last year so that made it fun.

Turns out, Cal's quite the runner! There were two meets and out of over 40 other 4th grade kids from various schools, he came in 4th both times (1st from his school)! I was able to be there for the 2nd meet and when he crossed the finish line he told me he was never running in cross country again (as he was out of breath and his face was beat red). I told him to wait a few days...Sure enough, a few days later he was already talking about how he wanted to maybe try again next year. It was fun to watch him run and race.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188939088046493742.post-65445428487520803052021-09-07T16:21:00.007-07:002021-11-29T21:34:56.203-08:00First Day of School
Although this picture was taken during the first "week", I can now say the first week of 7th and 4th grades are going well! With my work schedule I wasn't able to be there on the first day and so snapped this picture when I could (o;

This year starts the beginning of Middle School for William! 2027 will come before we know it. Lord, help us to make the most of every opportunity because the days are short. He's excited and it's awesome to see. He gets his own (rented) iPad this year that's required by the school to complete his work and of course, that makes him a pretty big kid now (to say he's pretty proud of it). He's super responsible. Good practice for the days he'll have his own phone...Eeek!

As always, Calvin looks forward to school so he can mingle with his friends again. It feels like everyone knows him and he's got new buddies after the first day. I must say, he's a pretty fun and friendly kid. No doubt, 4th grade is gonna be a blast like the rest.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188939088046493742.post-6154096849835193232021-09-02T16:42:00.052-07:002021-12-22T20:02:41.594-08:00Summer at Silverwood
We more than paid for our Silverwood passes this year.

We had a total of 11 (Gpa & Gpa Pile, Roberts, Thornes, Strubelts, Beguelins, Gants, Hartleys, Greens, Mark & Brooke's family, Cox's and Wilsons) families who came and visited and enjoyed the park with us, both friends and family! It worked out perfectly for me as I didn't have much PTO time built up to take vacation. Instead, people brought the vacation to us! With the RV spot Curtis and Brian Meyers put in this past Spring, we were able to accommodate more people which was awesome.

This year will be a little different than future years if we decide to buy passes again since we had to trade off coming back home to let a little Ember out to potty (and occasionally clean up poop messes!!). Overall, she did pretty good and the fun we were able to squeeze in between trips was more than plenty.

William surprised me and by the end of the season told us that Spin Cycle was his absolute favorite ride.

Calvin was all about the coasters and decided that Tremorz was his fave.

Curtis and I accomplished going on every roller coaster on the dry side. I can't say I did Aftershock more than once but maybe by next season I'll be ready to try it again.

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh7Wf9R3n7_e91oHahQYZdOnvD1luUJV63WFi3KVGq0KH4sTs_Mk4ZfW_taZ3QaBJ3UMzecWKIEjGNqQ6ekJsAfU6uG8buVnbR1cqLD71id7LBvGgghjJhv2wMdcXZG_Iyg1ZW1ocfO4E6zEBFZSdHQUOyFcTS10BY9RTGsgSInfLVvcD9S4mHZJZKI=s960" style="margin-left: 1em; We debated it. Puppies are so much work! But given that it was Summer and the boys were home to help, we though no better time than now. We've always been a two dog family and we are hoping it might liven up Freska a bit since Rags has been gone for almost a year now.

All 14lbs of cuddly cuteness...

We originally were going to get a golden lab, but after the calm black female was left in the litter, we decided that a black dog might wear in the mud a little better than a golden one (o; Her name was up to a family vote. W and Dad liked "Stella" and Calvin and I liked "Ember". We went with Ember def: a smoldering coal or ash from a fire. It fit a black lab! Plus Calvin's 3rd grade class had read the City of Ember books during school last year (Calvin loved them) and it talked about an underground dark/black city.

No doubt there will be plenty of sleepless nights ahead!!

Ruth had come for a visit and saw the puppies. It's just hard to believe sometimes how quickly the years pass.

He had just experienced an Escape Room with his Trail Life troop a few weeks ago and said he wanted to try it out again with some friends from school for his birthday. We allowed him to choose three other friends to go with him and he had no problem deciding who (so thankful that he's made some good friends in the few months that we've been here).

They first enjoyed some play in the snow here at home while it was still daylight. The Legers allowed us privilege to their sledding hill and they wore themselves out going up and down. We're also wearing our sledding material out!

Curtis joined the boys for their Escape Room experience while Cal and I were at home preparing dinner for when they returned. William always wants steak...especially Grandpa Bruce's elk steak.

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjH7mghiW4PB1m_kIE-bZAABrKhDcrW4G2sH9G72iayUbXsC6iotN_6-qej-R75C_TlMNOgr1JErm8G-t_P4BlA0PJv2ZBCNxqOmjJvnLdlCJherizoPqWLYGtNodY5LdQynk5LaiQexoXew2Fn9uRea8Q8jQu02USP25nYLFKRa4xAVtPNtF_lureR=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; We rented a tiny home (William's always wanted to stay in one) and Curtis studied up on the Passport to Purity material through Family Life.

I am so thankful for a husband who recognizes the importance of being the one who speaks into his boy's lives about the incredible way God has created our bodies, how they change as we grow and all the other birds and bees topics (o; So many kids now days are learning things from their phones and/or other friends which has the opportunity to change the course of their lives. The legacy Mom and Dad left me as a young girl and the importance they put on purity at a young age was priceless and our prayer is that that same legacy is passed down to William and Calvin.

The getaway was special for both of them and it warms my heart they share the relationship they do. My prayer is that their open communication about life and it's challenges continues on into adulthood. I pray for William's future wife and the opportunity she has to learn purity in the same way. I know God has a plan and it's always perfect...It'll be fun to watch it unfold.

My hope is that next year, when William is 13, to start taking him on occasional dates just the two of us to provide the opportunity regarding any questions related to girls and my experience as one (o; Not that I think I'll get a lot from my boys, but at least they'll know I care enough to open up.

Continuation of my emails to those who have prayed for us and our move:
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Well, the holidays are past and the New Year is well on its way…
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">For those of you who have kept us in your thoughts and prayers and reminded us via text or phone call that you’re thinking of us, your encouragement has meant the world. I don’t ever want to forget to say thank you.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">We are continually reminded of the importance God placed on people and community. It has truly been our sustenance throughout this entire journey. He never meant for us to do life alone; ever. Whether it’s been the life group we’ve connected with, new friends and families through the boy’s school and the kindness of our neighbors, we’ve felt encouraged. Honestly, this journey would’ve been one of extreme loneliness, depression and frustration if it hadn’t been for stepping beyond ourselves and reaching out to others (even at the most stressful of times). I say this only as encouragement. When life throws big things, God works through His people to comfort. Stay connected.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Today marks a big day in our lives. Today Curtis ended his last shift with Portland Fire. After 16yrs in Portland (and 28 total years of public service), he turned in his gear this morning. The guys on shift yesterday really made Curtis feel blessed with all they did for him. He received a traditional fire ax plaque commemorating his years of service in Portland, one of the firefighters came in on his day off to deliver a “fire ball” (welded together metal plaque pieces that each represented a memory of Curtis’ years of service with a propane feed to be used as a “fire pit”-see picture below), and four of the fireboats met up on the water to say hey and goodbye to him. He told me he felt extremely thankful and blessed. He returns home Thursday. When we started our moving process, I thought this day seemed so far off…To be free of Portland and all that Curtis’ job was requiring of him both physically and emotionally; it feels good to be starting the next chapter.
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">I’ve been on the job hunt since after the holidays but Curtis’ doesn’t seem as eager for me to jump into full time work too soon. I hadn’t realized that our healthcare benefits don’t run out until the end of March, so there’s time. In the meantime, I have compiled my resume, collected all of my proofs of certifications and have email alerts set for new jobs in the area. I’ve also been talking with other nurses here about their work experiences (again, getting to know more people!). I haven’t closed the door on a potential hospice position if that’s where God wants me, although currently the only available shift is nights. I’m trying hard to find something during the day (for the sake of my own health journey and recommendation from my naturopath).
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Meanwhile, the boys are thriving. They have done so well and have definitely grown as a result of this whole experience. Spring soccer sign ups started and although we knew Calvin would be interested, we had no idea William would want to try it…no prompting! He has a friend at school that he’s been playing soccer with at recess and he said he’d join only if he was on his team. For a kid who’s always been super resistant to anything like this, we were surprised and excited for him. Doesn’t start till April, but we’ll see how it goes!
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">We appreciate you continued prayers for the following!…
<p style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; min-height: 12px;">

<li style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;"> Praise for God’s provision through Curtis’ job all these years and the peace in knowing He will continue to provide in the coming years as we trust Him with the unknowns.

<li style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 11px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px;">Prayers as God directs both timing and position for a job for myself. Praying for wisdom in the meantime.

Because we were headed to Idaho to unload the next day, they were able to get us in at 4:45p. Needless to say, it was difficult. We’ve had rags since he was 2 1/2 and so the boys have grown up with him. We all had a good cry as they experienced the hard part of owning a pet. It's all so vivid and present in my mind right now because we're living it. But I know, a few years will turn into ten years, will turn into 20 and I'll have forgotten all the details. And that's exactly where God shows up...the details. We cannot forget how He is working.

I thought it easiest to make a list. (1) it's easier to read and (2) it's easier to write:

~6/12 We posted our house on zillow.com For Sale By Owner, $579,000
~6/17 After multiple showings, we accepted an offer for $570,000 with no realtors from Andrew, Savannah and Mason (a local family who really loved our property and has wanted acreage for quite some time. Only kicker is they put their house on the market this day as well.)
~7/7 The date we had given our buyers to sell their house or we'd put it back on the market. We knew it wasn't a long time to sell their house, but they had to realize that we too needed to get the ball rolling in order that we could start looking in Idaho.)
~7/7 That evening, we went from pending back to on the market.
~7/12 Curtis got a text from the very first people (Sean and Nicole Reisig) who came to look at our property when we posted it the first time. They had said they absolutely loved our property when they saw it the first time (even had their grown kids come and look at it with them), but didn't think it would work well space wise when all five adult kids were home. They saw it was back on the market and so wanted to discuss their thoughts of potentially purchasing it and adding on to accommodate their needs.
~7/13 We met with Sean and Nicole, they walked through the house again and then offered us a full price offer. They wanted to close as early as 8/7!
~We were able to share with them a bit about our reason for the move and our plans in Idaho. Thankfully, because they don't have to sell their current home before buying this one, they sounded flexible as to when we would need to be out depending on what we found in Idaho.
~They listened intently as we talked about how big of a faith move this was for our family.
~They talked briefly about where they attended church and we told them that we had been praying for them without knowing who they were.
~7/14 We purchased paperwork and met up with Sean at his dental clinic to sign. As I walked into his office, on the wall stood a picture that gave me chills. It was a drawing of a dentist sitting next to a patient in a dental chair. Over him was Jesus, his arms outstretched, guiding the dentist as he worked. It was titled "In His Hands."
~This picture truly depicted how this whole thing fell together. These were the first people to see our home but also the first people to say no. This meant that they were the last people we ever expected to come back and want to buy it. The time we were in waiting while the first offer was in place, we had to trust and have faith that God had a plan despite what we couldn't see. It felt discouraging to have to put the house back on the market, but if we hadn't, we wouldn't have witnessed this coming together.
~I told Sean how much a liked the picture. He thanked me and later told Curtis and I about their church's work with the homeless population, particularly women who are on the streets and being mistreated. Again, it gave me chills. His website says he does a lot of work through his dental clinic for uninsured kids.
~The paperwork was dropped off at title and progressively all of the "stuff" (inpsection, appraisal, well test, septic pump, etc.) is being scheduled for next week.

Because Curtis had a few more days off of work, I thought of the spontaneous idea of taking a trip to Idaho to check out the market now that we had a pretty solid offer on the house. John and Susan Brogan (friends we met for the first time in May when Curtis and I took a trip to Idaho without the boys) were willing to take us and the boys for a few nights, Bruce and Marsha were available to take the dogs, so we went!

Conclusion of the trip was that the market is moving super fast and properties are only increasing in price. We went with nine properties listed to look at and pretty much all of them either had offers or weren't for sale anymore once we got there. Even a listing that went live while we were driving around already had three offers sight unseen before we could get in to look at it. We left feeling a bit discouraged, but still trusting God had a plan.

We ended up meeting a fellow RLM member and realtor (Ty) who showed us a home but also drove us around in the area to give us pointers as to which areas were best. He even took us to his personal home and was more than kind. Curtis and I concluded that once this next week was finished (all the inspections, etc.), we would probably need to ask him to be on the search for us. Trying to find a home in such a hot market across states doesn't prove easy. I thanked the Lord for the connection. Maybe that was the whole intention of this trip.

Unlike any church here in Oregon (or at least most because of Covid), RLM is meeting together services and so we went to their Thursday night service. It was exactly what I needed. Corporate worship is something I didn't realize I missed so much.

The very last song we sang was "Yes I will" by Vertical Worship. Man is spoke to me. Tears streamed down my face as I was once again reminded of God's faithfulness. The words...
He is worthy of our praise regardless of what we can see. He is working and His timing is perfect. This entire process has been about deepening my (our) faith and trust in His plan and purpose. He didn't promise comfort. But He did promise peace, if only we would lean into Him.

This is such a witness to William and Calvin as they watch us wrestle with the unknowns. I am thankful for this time of uncertainty. May I lift my hands even higher in surrender.
I can't say I'm a fan, but I know the teachers are giving it 110% and compared to what I hear is happening in the public arena, I think the boys will come out of this with hardly any lag in learning.

They are required to be on zoom multiple times a day that each teacher has specifically told them to log in. Then, as a parent, we're required to correct work and/or turn stuff in on pick up days at the school. It's all very interesting. Thankfully the boys have adapted fairly well. We're all just hopeful this is only an end of this school year kind of thing and things are back to normal after Summer's over.

Here's a couple screenshots of William's class I took while he was in "class". And then both boys as they zoom in online for their studies. Some different memories made for sure.

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; His notes express his heart and I love them. Words are my love language and Calvin often speaks it when he decides to randomly write our his love. They hold a special place in my heart.

As the first born especially, it comes pretty naturally for him. We are very proud of our boys and other's recognition of the qualities of God inside of them. We only pray these qualities continue to grow in them spiritually as they grow physically! Great job William!!

He got some time with his friends Logan, Josiah, Eric and Jonathan at home. He's a simple kid that finds joy in the small things. Time with his friends is all he wanted.
Grandma Kim came to visit shortly after his birthday and she treated the boys to a movie with her. It's always a special time when Grandparents visit!

We were talking about how God created us from the dust of the earth. I could tell he was really thinking about this. It was hard for his little mind to grasp that Adam was formed from dirt, and that when we die, our bodies return to just the same.

A few weeks ago, Grandma Marsha was talking about how her and Bruce had gotten arrangements together for their cremation and had even received their urns to collect their ashes. I remember talking briefly about spreading ashes and asking her when she wanted her spread. Although I don't remember him being a part of it, Calvin must have overheard the conversation.

This morning, random and out of the blue (Calvin style), Calvin says, "Mom! I want my joy to be spread in lots of places!" At first I didn't get it. He was so excited when he said it, like he had had a sudden epiphany. When I asked him what it meant, he said, "You know, since there's joy in my heart, I want the ashes from my heart when I die spread all over so my joy can be everywhere!"

Oh man. I just stood still and smiled for a minute.
He gets it.
I never would've even thought about it like that, but I could tell he had been thinking about it ever since our conversation yesterday.

Just another one of those sweet Calvinisms that was a must record (o;Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188939088046493742.post-23726885377700604262019-11-08T22:25:00.029-08:002021-12-22T21:45:04.799-08:00Calvin's Golden Birthday!
There's much to celebrate about this kid. Calvin's always the life of the party. He's learning that he's funny and often provides the comic relief the rest of our family needs sometimes (o; He wanted friends over to just hang, have dinner and cake and of course a wrestling match (boy's birthday parties are pretty easy). Every year seems that way as the boys get older. He turns 8 on the 8th this year and I just love the boy we have in Calvin. God has truly blessed us. He's always looking for what's next on the agenda for fun (o; This can distract him quite a bit when mom and dad have to ask him to do something, but he's learning. I know God's got amazing things in store for this kid. He's seems to make friends with anyone and gives the best hugs (especially to his Mom (o; ).

He invited his friends Brandon Rodriguez, Dawson Cox and Cameron Anderson and we went to Get Air. Once we were home, literally all the boys wanted to do was have wrestling tournaments. I don't think that ever occurred in our house growing up, although my Dad would've loved it! It was pretty hilarious to watch the boys just clear the furniture and go for it in the front room.
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; The Halloween holiday has never been one I liked, but we've had fun and celebrating a time of Harvest (like we did growing up). This was the first year that William decided he was too big to wear a costume. We always peruse the 2nd hand stores and he happened on this shirt and told me that it would be his costume. Curtis has gone a few times in the past and has talked about the time he'll start taking the boys. We decided that 10yrs old was a good starting point. So, this year William and Curtis got to go together. They didn't end up seeing any elk, but the camaraderie and time in the mountains was good for their souls. William loves the outdoors and camping so he was definitely in his element. They didn't get a tag but just went along for the ride and scenery this year.

We'll see what next year holds!

Grandpa Bruce, Uncle Cory, Mike, Colby, Curtis and William were all together this year.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7188939088046493742.post-52578836505646716222019-10-22T19:57:00.014-07:002022-11-23T20:03:29.291-08:00William's First Hunting Trip
Now that William is 10, he got to go on his first hunting trip. Curtis didn't get any tags, just wanted William to experience the trip and being at camp and out in the wilderness looking for Elk. He got to go with Curtis, Grandpa Bruce, Uncle Cory, and Cousin Colby where Grandpa Bruce has gone hunting for the past multiple years (I don't know how many but I know it's been a long time!).
